1-the responsible for supervision is one of the faculty’s teaching staff with a degree of professor or assistant professor at least. The lecturers may help in supervising without doing reports to judge the thesis, signing on it, participating in the discussing or including their names in the thesis.
2- the student and the members of teaching staff must not have related by blood or marriage, to the fourth degree inclusive, and must not be included in the arbitration committee.
3-it is allowed to second the supervisor on the master’s degree or the Ph.D., after doing a report about the these he supervises, and the supervisor defines how far the student achieves, and the faculty council chooses who will take his/her place, according to the suggestion of the specialized department council and the approval of the graduate studies committee.
4-it is allowed to appoint or add a participant supervisor from another foreign university, according to a suggestion of the Egyptian supervisor and the approval of the specialized department and the decision of the faculty council.
5- the thesis must include the name of the deceased supervisor, and he/she deserves the supervision’s reward commensurate with the duration of the supervision, the condition of passing 6 months to complete the procedures to grant the degree is excluded when the supervisor dies, after doing the report of the master validity.
6-the internal- seconded member of the teaching staff can participate in the arbitration committee as a supervisor and he/she must not be counted as an arbitrator under any conditions.
The maximum supervision for the master
1-the maximum number of supervising professors is two of professors or assistant professors.
2-the maximum number of theses to supervise Egyptian students is 30 master’s degrees, and for the assistant professor is 20 master’s degrees, and the theses of demonstrators, assistant lecturers, and foreign students are not included among this maximum supervision.
The discussion and arbitration committee
1-after finishing the master, the supervisor provides the department council a report concerning the master’s validity to discuss, according to the suggestion of arbitration committee.
2-the discussion and arbitration committee consists of the master’s supervisor and two members of professors or tenured professors or assistant lecturers, and the senior member is the head of the committee, and if there are multiple supervisors, they may participate in the committee and they are counted one vote.
3- the graduate studies and research administration forward the suggested composition to the committee to discuss the master before its time for discussion to approve the composition by the University vice-president for graduate studies and research and the master cannot be discussed till the composition is approved.
4-the master arbitration or discussion occurs during 6 months from its University administration’s approval date, and if the master is not discussed within this period, the approval of the committee will be repeated with the same former composition, and if the committee is not held, the committee will be recomposed with other members.
- The thesis is discussed in public, and every member of the arbitration and discussion committee provides a report about it, the committee provides a group report including its suggestion about granting the student the scientific degree, and the grade of it, according to the table in article No. (37) of this regulation. These reports are submitted to the specialized department council for approval, and the faculty council is responsible for granting the degree.
- The discussion committee can recommend repeating the student’s thesis to complete what it lacks, and the committee must provide the specialized department council a group report to give the researcher a six-month extension at least from the date of discussion session to complete its observations, and the committee or whom it authorizes, should agree to permit the master or not.
- The arbitration and discussion committee can grant who gets grade (B) grade (B with honors), and it can decide to exchange the master with other universities, it also can recommend printing the thesis at public expense.
- The subject of the thesis and student’s grade are mentioned in the certificate.
- The student must print his /her thesis according the specifications and instructions which the university public administration for graduate studies decides and gives this public administration and the administration for graduate studies an electronic copy of it and a paper copy after discussing and correcting it according to the report of the judgement and discussion committee, with the number of copies which the university decides.
Conditions of granting the master’s degree
1-The conditions of granting master’s degree in law :
- Passing the stage of courses with the assessed accredited hours.
- Spending 24 accredited hours doing a creative research in a subject with applied and practical aspects, and a review for the former studies and the council of the graduate studies and research approves this research according to the suggestion of faculty council, within a year at least from the date of the registration’s approval of the faculty council.
- Presenting the search results in a thesis accepted by the arbitration committee and discusses it in public.
2- passing the master’s degree is announced by calculating the average score and grade which the student gets in the stage of courses and the stage of the master, with one of the following grades:
